Lake Danao


Lake Danao is a mountain lake with a total area of approximately 139 hectares. Hemmed by the cloud-capped Mindiwin mountain range, the lake is 15 kilometers northeast of the city proper and half an hour drive along the national highway going to Tongonan. It is approximately 700 meters above sea level. Its murky green waters harmoniously blend with the verdant green forests of the surrounding hills.
The lake's placid water is ideal for boating or kayaking, and fishing. The surrounding forest, on the other hand, contains a wide variety of flora and fauna, and is perfect for trekking or camping. The recreational park set within its cool and invigorating climate make it among the leading adventure destination of the country.



Lake Kasudsuran

Lake Kasudsuran is a 12-hectare lake located in the virgin forest of Brgy. Gaas. It is situated at a height of 820 meters above sea level amidst lush vegetation. Accessible only by foot, one gets a refreshing view of the lake after enjoying a good hike from the starting point at Sitio Maglahug, approximately 2.5 kilometers from the lake.






Lake Janagdan

Mt. Janagdan is the highest peak at 1,120 meters above sea level situated at Brgy. Cabingtan, and is about 19 kilometers northeast of the city. Hidden within this peak is another magnificent and mystifying lake, Lake Janagdan. The smallest among the three Ormoc lakes, it has an area of about 3 hectares This Lake is accessible only by foot, about two hours hike from the jump-off point at the barangay proper. Despite its size as compared to Lake Danao and Lake Kasudsuran, it can exude the same charm and excitement to the adventurers. It rises at a height of 1,080 meters, offering a challenging climb to those who want to be captivated by its beauty, concealed amidst a rugged terrain and thick forest cover.

Ormoc Mangroves

The mangrove swamps in Ormoc Bay stretches extensively along the coastal area in the northwestern side of Ormoc City within the barangays of Naungan, San Juan and Lao. Its 260 hectares vegetation shelters the highest number of mangrove species and considerable number of marine and terrestrial organisms. The area is also utilized for aquaculture development and livelihood of local residents. The area has been awarded to a number of people's organization located in the area for conservation and development projects under the supervision of local and national line agencies.

Beach Resorts

With Ormoc Bay to its west, Ormoc City is also host to six (6) beach resorts and three (3) picnic grounds. Aside from being able to swim and gambol in the water, there are also available water sports equipments.

Ormoc Superdome


The pride of Ormoc City, situated within the city fronting the Ormoc Bay. This imposing structure has an area of 3,782 square meters with a 5,000-person capacity equipped with modern facilities. This modern structure is a magnificent venue for socio-cultural activities such as conventions, conferences, concerts, basketball and volleyball tournaments and other related activities.




Riverwalk/ JICA Flood Mitigation Project

These river control structures along Anilao and Malbasag Rivers gave way to the rivers new facade. After the Ormoc Tragedy in 1991, this grants-in-aid project of the Japan Government was constructed in 2001 with almost P1.0 billion in budget and nearly P300 million from the Philippine government. The project aimed to provide sufficient protection against floods and ensure safety of Ormocanons living near the river and in the city proper. The walkway along the length of the structure was transformed into a riverwalk in 2006, with concrete slabs lining the pavement turning the walkway into a river park where people can stroll and enjoy the river view. Elegant lampposts were also installed for nighttime illumination creating a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere.

Saints Peter and Paul Parish Church

The oldest church in the city was constructed way back in 1556 when the Jesuit missionaries first set foot in Ormoc. This marked the prelude to centuries of Christian evangelization in Ormoc. Ogmoc was originally attached to her mother town Palompon that attained parochial independence from Hilongos on Nov. 12, 1784. A month after Ormoc became a municipality on Feb. 26, 1834, the Ormoc Catholic Parish with Saints Peter and Paul as its patron was formally inaugurated.
The church had recently undergone a major renovation in preparation of being converted into a cathedral. The church golden main altar and beautifully-painted interior add to its overall appeal that draws more churchgoers and devotees.

Leyte Geothermal Power Field

The countrys largest geothermal powerhouse and the virtual linchpin in the national electric highway throughout the entire archipelago.

The production field lies in a 2,244 hectares area within the 107,625 hectares reservation. Its five (5) power plants produce 708 megawatts geothermal capacity which is 37% of the estimated gross potential reserves of the country at 5,000 megawatts. It accounts 60% of the country's installed capacity of 1,911 megawatts. It provides electricity to southern parts of Luzon, to the Visayas and to the northern parts of Mindanao via sub-sea cables.

Leyte Golf and Country Club

Overlooking the Ormoc bay with a backdrop of majestic mountains and rolling hills, lays the Leyte Golf and Country Club. The course is located 7 kilometers from the heart of Ormoc City. It is a premier golfing resort covering more than 80 hectares of semi-rolling terrain nestled on a plateau with palms, coconut, fruit-bearing trees and flowering shrubs. The course challenges your style of play, yet relaxes you as you traverse its lush green fairways.

Historical 
 
Puente de la Riena

The "Bridge of the Queen" is considered as the last existing physical structure that symbolizes Spanish colonization of the city. Known as the oldest bridge in the city, its cobblestones are still intact, relics of an age long gone. It was built in the early 1800’s but was completed in 1861. During the Spanish era, the bridge served as a docking area for sailboats, vintas of Chinese, Javans and Indonesians who frequented the island to sell their produce. The bridge is still in use today. It is situated near the twin buildings of the Executive and Legislative branch of the city and beside the Ormoc City Hall.
Veteran’s and Centennial Park

The Veteran’s Park was constructed in early 1990s in honor of the Filipino soldiers who fought for the liberation of Leyte and the Philippines. The Centennial Marker was erected in 1998 to commemorate the 100th year of Philippine independence. One gets a good view of the bay, the port and the plaza from this point. It is a favorite rendezvous for the young and old alike for picnics and leisurely strolls on its verdant lawn. And from here, one can experience the refreshing breeze from the sea and witness the magnificent beauty of the sunset.


Phil-Japan Peace Memorial

An impressive memorial marker put up by the Nagoya and Gifu Prefectures as a token of friendship of Japanese and Filipinos in the aftermath of World War II. It is situated in one of the city's picturesque hills overlooking Ormoc Bay, Carlota Hills in Brgy. Can-adieng. Japanese visitors frequented this area in memory of their beloved countrymen who fought in World War II.

Ruins of Cong. Dominador Tan Residence

The residence of Cong. Dominador Tan with well-manicured lawn and a swimming pool was one of the most beautiful scenery in Ormoc at that time which was completed a year before the World War II. As war broke out, it was utilized as one of the headquarters of the Japanese military operations in Leyte and was partially destroyed by the bombings of the famous Battle of Ormoc Bay. Its ruins serve as a symbolic structure of Ormocanons indulgence of World War II.

Mass Grave

The graveyard of the victims of the 1991 flash flood is where the biggest cross in the city can be found. An obelisk in the center is erected where interpretations of the victims by the artists all over the country will be installed. A commemorative mass, lighting of candles and laying of flowers are done on this site every November 5th each year in memory of the victims who perished in the tragedy.

This are only a few of the spots that one might check out if they were to go to Ormoc.
Marami pang magagandang lugar na dapat puntahan sa Ormoc there are also beautiful places in Leyte and many more.
